Airsprung Beds

Airsprung Beds

Travellers hoping to sleep comfortably on an aeroplane owned by American cut-price firm JetBlue will have to cough up $7 (£3.60) if they are flying for more than two hours and would like a blanket and pillow.

Associated Free Press reported that the charge is a measure put in place as a reaction to "spiralling fuel prices" and "shrinking airline travel" due to a credit crunch-led slump in sales.

However, JetBlue say its deal is providing a "take-home travel kit" that customers can use again in future - one that is brand new for each individual.

Speaking to the news provider, JetBlue Airways general manager of product development, Brett Muney, said: "Replacing our old, recycled pillows and blankets with this state-of-the-art, high-quality take home kit is an eco-conscious, health-conscious and customer-conscious decision."

Last month, the Boston Globe also detailed the large-scale advertising that many air travel companies have embraced, with promotions appearing on booking websites, in-flight food trays and attendants handing out flyers for products.

Concept Memory Mattresses

Concept Memory Mattresses

At Kdbeds, with their wide choice of mattresses, beds, bed frames and bedroom accessories from all the top leading brands, they can help you decide which type is best for you to get the most from your zzzzzzs.

One favourite amongst their large selection is Concept Memory, re-knowned for their supportive structure and low allergy propensities. Resistant to dust mites, these hard-wearing beds were one of the first to use memory foam, a comfort enhancing technology developed by NASA to aide better sleep in astronauts while in space by moulding to the shape of their bodies.

The foam conforms under pressure, meaning it gives support where it is needed most, increasing the potential for greater relaxation from the moment your head hits the pillow. Producers of over 10,000 mattresses a day, Concept Memory uses a patented vacuum packaging technique which allows for ease of transportation and are guaranteed to expand to their full, permanent size within hours of unpacking.

Designed to perfectly follow the contours of your body, the Concept Memory mattresses prevent muscles and nerves from numbing up and allows for free circulation. Together the Airflow construction and Coolmax cover work to eliminate perspiration, letting air circulate and leaving skin feeling cool and dry. Available in super king, this mattress retails at a very competitive price.

From Silentnight to Slumberland, Sealy to Healthbeds, Kdbeds can even provide mattresses made to measure to your own specification (3 to 4 day delivery time) and also supply a selection of beds and bedroom accessories such as pillows and duvets.

Sealy Beds

Sealy Beds

Sealy – the official bed for ACTIVE people

It’s official! Active people would rather sleep in a Sealy bed than any other bed brand.

Research conducted by the world’s leading bed manufacturer found that the type of people that buy its products are more likely to be the type of person that leaps out of bed every morning than the type that lies in ‘til noon.

The research categorised consumers according to how they viewed sleep. The categories included The Science of Sleepers, Functional Sleep Lovers, Premium Bed Lovers, Affordable Style Seekers, Uber Premium Comfort and No Nonsense.

Most of Sealy beds customers fall into the Science of Sleep category, including
Yorkshire County Cricketer and Australian Test Cricketer, Jason Gillespie, who recently took delivery of a Sealy Mirrorform bed and commented: “I need my sleep after a hard days bowling and on this bed I get it.”

Notes to Editors
  • Sealy is the world’s biggest bed brand.
  • Sealy United Kingdom operates under licence from Sealy Incorporated in North Carolina, USA. The company's success in the UK started in 1974, following the acquisition by the Silentnight Group of local bedding and furniture company M Hackney & Co, in Aspatria, West Cumbria.
  • Since Sealy was established in the UK, it has remained one of the fastest growing brands and has consistently achieved record sales - a significant achievement in the present economic climate and an increasingly competitive market place.
  • For more information visit www.kdbeds.com

At the top of the market with a huge 25% of the share is the Science of Sleep category. These people appreciate the health benefits of the right bed and are keen to ensure they have the right technology to maximise those benefits. Science of Sleep-ers are opposed to spending time in bed as they see it as being lazy and can often be heard saying “I spend as little time as possible in bed.”

21% of bed buyers are Functional Sleep Lovers who are very similar to their higher class friends Premium Bed Lovers but with a more practical attitude to buying a new bed, and will only do so if they really have to. Functional Sleep Lovers love spending time in their bed and explain that their bed “is like a sofa the way I use it.”

Affordable Style Seekers make up 20% of the market and have very little relationship with their bed and would see the style of a potential new bed as the most important factor.

17% of the market is Premium Bed Lovers who are very appreciative of their bed and enjoy going to bed. Premium Bed Lovers have been heard to say: “My bed makes me happy” and “My bed is my sanctuary”.

The smallest percentage of the research at just 4% is the Uber Premium Comfort section followed by 13% of all bed buyers who fall in to the No Nonsense category. The No Nonsense sleepers have little involvement with their bed and see it as just something they sleep on.

Like Jason Gillespie, Science of Sleep-ers are most likely to have a Sealy bed such as the new Mirrorform. The new range, which is unique to Sealy and the UK, has been significantly re-designed to offer a fabulous new look, more choice and a new, technically advanced memory core that enhances support for perfect spinal alignment. Not only does it give you that much needed good night’s sleep, but it also has the technology to keep your body temperature just right regardless of what season it is.

Silentnight Beds

Silentnight Beds

A recent study into sleep and dreams by the University of Pittsburgh has found that one hour less of sleep in children was connected to a two-fold risk of being overweight, it has emerged.

The Daily Telegraph reported that research, which studied 335 children and teenagers between seven and 17, also found that one hour less of dreaming in bed led to a three-fold increase in risk.

Dr Xianchen Liu, who led the study, compared results with the subjects'' body mass index to calculate the links between weight and sleep and noted that decreased activity during the process of rapid eye movement showed a higher correlation with overweight children.

The doctor added that altering sleeping habits in younger people "may have important public health implications for the prevention and intervention of obesity and type two diabetes in children".

Yesterday the BBC reported that the Department of Health has advised Primary Care Trusts to refer to obese children as "very overweight" as research found that the term was "alienating parents" and "turning them off from the key message".
